AF Bathroom and Heating ltd, based in Plymouth, carries out full bathroom refurbishments with an in-house team, with reviewers naming Ashley and Mike for design and 3D layouts, and fitters including Steve, Ross, John, Jeff, AJ and Tom for rip-outs, tiling, plumbing and electrics completed to a consistently tidy standard. Customers repeatedly praise punctuality, clear updates throughout a job, and a showroom visited to choose fittings before work begins. One reviewer describes a markedly different experience on a large disability-adapted renovation, alleging subcontracted work of a poor standard, mismatched products and a prolonged, unresolved dispute over remedial repairs and settlement terms. As a bathroom fitter in Plymouth, AF Bathroom and Heating ltd holds a 4.9-star average from 119 Google reviews.

4.9 / 5 · 119 totalI’d highly recommend AF Bathroom Heating. Steve completely ripped out our old bathroom and installed a brand new one from start to finish. His workmanship was excellent, he was reliable, tidy, and kept us updated throughout the whole job. We’re absolutely thrilled with the finished bathroom and couldn’t be happier. Thank you, Steve!
AF bathrooms have carried a full refurbishment of our ageing family bathroom and we have been very impressed with the work that they have done. They have a complete team of in house craftsmen covering the trades needed. We had an initial home visit from Ashley to carry out a detailed survey and discuss our wishes. We then received plans of his proposed layout with 3D reconstructions. We visited the AF showroom to look at options for the various fittings, furniture and surfaces etc. We were happy with the final quote so agreed a date to start. The old bathroom was taken out very efficiently by the team of Anthony and later Steve taking care to minimise dust and damage to flooring. Preparation work was carried out to install the new fittings and furniture. The fittings were then installed followed by wall covering and flooring. The electricians also installed new lights and an extractor very quickly. Finally the painter did a very good job on the walls and ceiling. The teams liaised well and we were always kept up with progress. All the work was carried out during the recent heatwave and I was impressed how everyone coped with this.
I am so happy with my new bathroom. My home is more improved, clean, tidy. Everything was installation properly.
With regret, it is time to write this review following a very unprofessional experience with AF Bathrooms & Heating Ltd. What was sold as a high-end luxury £16,000 renovation designed for a disabled person with specific requirements, turned out to be a masterclass in aggressive mis-selling, unfulfilled promises and fundamentally unsafe workmanship which was not even carried out by AF Bathrooms' own fitters, despite being promised "Jeff" the internet sensation by Mike. Following 2 independent surveys and a lengthy legal dispute, I can now share this review. Whilst I cannot disclose the outcome of any legal process, all parties including my financial company agreed that AF Bathrooms completely failed to meet the standards required under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. 1. Severe Structural & Workmanship Failures The independent professional inspection confirmed that the installation falls dangerously below acceptable industry standards. The issues include: 1.1. Moving & Cracking Floor: The floor tiles began moving and the grout cracked almost immediately because they were laid over an "unsubstantial and unsuitable" subfloor. The entire floor is uneven and structurally compromised. 1.2. Hollow, Lipped Wall Tiles: Multiple wall tiles are unevenly aligned and sound entirely hollow when tapped, indicating completely inadequate adhesive coverage and a severe risk of future water ingress. 1.3. Substandard Grouting & Silicone: The grout lines were irregular and poorly finished. Initial remediation attempts to fix the silicone work and a damaged doorframe only made the situation worse with subcontractors simply smearing two beads of the wrong colour silicone directly over the existing mess. 1.4. Safety Hazards: The lapped, uneven tiling and lifting floor created a genuine trip and slip hazard for a vulnerable and disabled customer. 2. Misrepresentation and Product "Bait-and-Switch" The sales process relied heavily on deceptive practices to justify a luxury price tag: 2.1. Subcontractor Deception: We were promised highly skilled, in-house installers. Instead, we were assigned subcontractors whose work was so poor that I was forced to project manage the installation myself just to get it finished. 2.2. Cheap Materials in a £16k Bathroom: Despite paying for a premium finish, the primary shower unit installed was a generic, unbranded £120 trade kit made of low-quality ABS plastic, rather than the high-end solid brassware appropriate for a project of this scale. 2.3. Mismatched Units & Wrong Items: The vanity units supplied are a completely different brand and a visibly different colour from the side panels. Furthermore, a standard flat mirror was installed despite us specifically ordering and paying for a bevelled design. 2.4. Financial Discrepancies: The company calculated the design and costing themselves, heavily over-ordered extra materials, and then refused to issue a refund for the surplus items we were forced to pay for. Following the initial installation, AF Bathrooms were invited back to carry out remedial repairs to the silicone and repaint the doorframe. They turned up with the wrong colour silicone, did one bead and left, leaving the bathroom in an even worse condition. Following this, we cancelled the contract but did invite Ashley, the director, around 6 separate times through text, email and in person, which he declined. We also had to visit the showroom due to a lack of contact. We agreed with Ashley in person to a settlement and asked for those terms to be emailed over the following week, insisting that my dad was away and this would need to be done electronically, only to be told we would need to attend the showroom in person and would not be allowed a copy of the contract leaving us with no choice but to seek protection under a section 75. If you choose to appoint AF Bathrooms, please take precautions. I note since our attempted renovation, the pricing structure has now become much more aggressive and you are now required to pay 80% before the work commences.
Highly recommend! we recently had our bathroom renovated. Mike did a great design for our small bathroom and it is exactly what we wanted. Very professional and finish my bathroom on time. Excellent work from start to finish. Thank You AF Bathroom and heating team!
We couldn’t be happier with our new bathroom and our experience with AF Bathroom & Heating from start to finish. Their initial design was far better than anything we received from big-name brands, we were surprised that it was the best price as well. The component quality in the showroom stood out, and knowing their fitters are in-house (not subcontractors like the rest) made the decision easy. Steve, our fitter, was excellent—always on time and hardworking, a natural grafter who clearly takes pride in his job. He kept us informed throughout and made sure we were happy every step of the way. The finished result… wow. Walking into the completed bathroom for the first time gave us a real sense of house pride and made us feel like we’d made the right choice. I’ve loved walking in there everyday since. I don’t usually leave reviews, but in this case I feel obliged. If you’re considering a new bathroom, make sure you get a quote from AF before committing anywhere else. Thank you to all of the staff involved in our process. We’ll see you again when it’s time for a kitchen.
We now have an awesome new bathroom! The work was easy to complete from start to finish and AJ was on point, very knowledgeable and polite, cleaned up after himself and the fit all went smoothly. A few bits to tweek but all in all a great service all round. Thankyou
